# Building Permits

The indicator reflects the number of new building projects authorized for construction. The indicator is widely used to assess real estate market, since receiving a building permit is the first step in the building process. Thus, the growth of the indicator reflects the growth in the construction sector. Also, due to the high outlays needed for construction projects, the indicator reflects the corporate and consumer optimism. Additionally it can act as a leading indicator for the economy as a whole.
