Dieser Indikator basiert auf der Schätzung von 8000 Unternehmen, Firmen und Institutionen der folgenden wirtschaftlichen Parameter:

- Angebot und Nachfrage, Preislevel;
- Einkommen;
- direkte Investments;
- Beschäftigung;
- Steuer Bedingungen.

Tankan ist der wichtigste Indikator Japans. Ein Wachstum dieses Indizes führt zu einer Stärkung der nationalen Währung und der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung Japans.
